We teased at the notion of signing a local band in the last newsletter and various social media outlets – well now it’s officially officialized, guys. Philly’s Norwegian Arms (Tumblr : Facebook : Twitter) will see their first full-length Wolf Like A Stray Dog out on Big School this coming January! WLASD is a document of a year spent in Siberia by singer/mandolinist Brendan Mulvihill. Upon returning from his year abroad in Tomsk, Russia, he reunited with other member Eric Slick (Dr. Dog), to flesh out these eleven introspective songs into rhythmically intricate, yet catchy folk influenced pop music. Touching upon themes like adapting to new environments, questioning one’s knowledge and perspective, and never being satisfied with what you know, one can say the album is wanderlust and curiosity, distilled and neatly packaged into sonic bursts of intense energy. The band plans to take their mandolin & percussion fueled weirdo-folk on the road with a string of dates that include release shows in Baltimore & NYC (12/14 & 12/15) as well as a Mayan end-of-world celebration on Dec. 21 here in Philly! Check the field trips page for more details. Our first experience with NA came a few years ago via their freely distributed singles & EP’s on Bandcamp and we became completely sold on the project after catching the hi-energy live performance so you’ll not want to miss any of the dates near you. Truuuuust us.
Oh yeah – we’re so out-of-our-minds pumped about this one we decided to immortalize the record onto 3 different formats, colored vinyl LP, CD and cassette – all available in limited quantities (300 white LP’s, 100 each of the CD’s and tapes). Each format will also include a companion booklet, containing photographs, essays and musings that inspired the album. We also have t-shirt bundles if band threads are your thing! Fret not, all pre-orders will include a digital download of the album and will ship a few weeks ahead of the official release date (approx. the week after X-mas).
